The Kaoji series is aimed at exam students and training studios. What matters is not a spectacular tone but stable tuning, consistent action, and the ability to take two or three hours of daily practice. Instruments are calibrated to a common tuning and string height before release, so students do not have to relearn their touch on every instrument.
The most common mistake is buying the most expensive instrument on day one. Higher grades demand more volume and expression; at lower grades, a concert-grade instrument with heavy tension and a firm action can actually get in the way of developing technique. Choose for your current grade plus two levels of headroom.
For studios buying in batches, consistency of action across the batch matters more than the tone of any single instrument — students switch instruments without readjusting, and group lessons stay on schedule. See five criteria for institutional purchasing and choosing a guzheng for graded exams.
